Choose Erie was launched as an extension of the Up For the Job Initiative, an idea to market the availability of a highly qualified, generational workforce presented by leadership at U.E. Local 506, the union representing General Electric's blue-collar workforce, in 2016. The effort to align Erie County's economic development system and create a "front door" to Erie County was born out of necessity and spearheaded by Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper.
County Executive Dahlkemper expanded and elevated the original concept by creating Choose Erie and convening a working committee representing the economic development professionals in the region. Leading agencies included the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership, NWPA Job Connect, Innovation Collaborative, U.E. Local 506, Erie County Redevelopment Authority, and Pennsylvania Governor’s Action Team.
Erie’s economic and community development agencies banded together in 2017 to support the initiative that now promotes Erie County to businesses looking to expand, grow, or start. The effort was initially funded by Erie County government and has expanded to include several funders and organizations focused on connecting with businesses looking to Choose Erie.
This team worked together to create the concept for Choose Erie as a central point of contact for companies looking to access one of the nation’s most highly skilled workforces, which helps makes Erie County ideally situated to support growth.
Attract new businesses and spark new investment in Erie County by establishing the availability of a highly trained workforce across sectors, ready to get to work, while marketing the many assets of locating a business in Erie County.
Choose Erie works day-to-day with business owners, government and civic leadership, and residents of Erie County who know there is no better place than Erie to grow your business, find a skilled workforce, raise a family, and live an exceptional life.
